Oaklands - Central Bedford
Situated on a quiet residential street in Bedford, this elegant detached house is private and peaceful and is for adults of all ages with Learning Disabilities and complex needs.
There are 7 very large bedrooms, each with private washing facilities. Communal facilities include a very large lounge, a spacious family-style kitchen with attached dining room, a second separate dining room and a utility room. There is also a conservatory with access to a patio area that fronts a lawned garden. There are three communal bathrooms, including one on the ground floor that is a wet room for wheelchair access.
Bedrooms exceed the National Minimum Standards and are as follows:
Room 1: 16m²
Room 2: 16m²
Room 3: 13.75m²
Room 4: 12.75m²
Room 5: 21.5m²
Room 6: 22.5m²
Room 7: 16.5m²
In addition to fitted carpets and curtains bedrooms are provided with a wardrobe, chest of drawers, two chairs, a desk, lockable space, shelving, a bed, bedding and towels. However, the Service User may elect to reject or add to these items is they wish. All bedrooms are for single occupancy.
Each bedroom has windows that can be opened by the service user if they wish, although they have restrictors fitted for safety. All bedroom doors are fitted with a lock, for which the service user holds a key. These can be locked from the inside and outside. Anyone, including staff, wishing to enter a bedroom must obtain permission from the Service User first. Each room has ample electrical sockets and a television aerial socket but does not have a phone point. Instead, a cordless phone is available for use in private.
Service users may personalise and decorate their own room to their own taste, including buying or bringing in furniture and electrical equipment, providing it meets with fire regulations and/or PAT testing.
The house is just a 5 minute walk from local shops and 15-20 minutes from the town centre. The house has its own 7-seater people-carrier and there is a bus-stop nearby for independent travel.
