Together, building a better future
This is a large semi-detached property in the small town of Rushden, Northamptonshire. It is appropriate for adults aged 18 to 65 who have Learning Disabilities and associated challenging behaviours.
There are 7 single occupancy bedrooms: 4 on the ground floor and 3 on the first floor. Each bedroom has private washing facilities. Communal facilities include a good-sized lounge, a fully-fitted kitchen and a separate dining room. There are 2 shared bathrooms on the ground floor (one of which is a wet room for wheelchair access) and another on the first floor. Dean House also has a conservatory area that leads to a very large and attractive garden that Service Users are encouraged to make full use of.
The house is set back from a busy road just a 5 minute walk from local shops and 15 minutes from the town centre. Open parkland is within 5 to 10 minutes’ walk, as is a friendly local pub. The house has its own 7-seater people-carrier for direct access to the nearby county town of Northampton, and there is a nearby bus-stop for more independent travel.
Bedrooms comply with the National Minimum Standards for homes registered prior to August 2002 and are as follows:
Room 1: 10m² - (Ground Floor)
Room 2: 10m² - (Ground Floor)
Room 3: 10m² - (Ground Floor)
Room 4: 9m² - (First Floor)
Room 5: 11m² - (First Floor)
Room 6: 16m² - (Ground Floor)
Room 7: 18m² - (First Floor)
Each Service User is provided with a bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, two chairs, a desk, lockable space, shelving, bedding and towels. Bedrooms also have fitted carpets and curtains. Each room has a minimum of two double sockets and a television aerial socket, but does not have a telephone point. A cordless phone is available for Service Users to use in private should they wish.
Each bedroom has a window that can be opened, although they have restrictors fitted for safety. All bedroom doors are fitted with a lock, for which the Service User holds a key. These can be locked from the inside and outside and shift leaders hold a master key in case of emergency.
Service Users may personalise and decorate their own room to their own taste, including buying or bringing in furniture and electrical equipment, providing it meets with fire regulations and/or PAT testing. Any persons, including staff, wishing to enter any bedroom will obtain permission to enter the room from the Service User first (except in the case of an emergency or concern for the well being of the Service User).
