Our residential service in Newborough, Peterborough, is a modern detached bungalow situated on a very quiet road. it is rated a 3 star ‘Excellent’ service by the Care Quality Commission.

Accommodation consists of 5 good-sized bedrooms, each with en-suite facilities. Communal space includes a spacious lounge, a separate dining room, a large fitted-kitchen and a separate utility room. Service Users are encouraged to assist, where appropriate, in the preparation of meals, snacks and drinks. There is a large communal bathroom with a WC, bath and shower, and an additional separate WC.

The house has an attractive and secure rear garden with extensive decking, and a block-paved parking area at the front.

Local shops and a pub are just a 5 minute walk away, as is a bus-stop for independent access to the city centre. In addition, the house has its own 7-seater people-carrier for direct access to the city’s extensive shopping and leisure facilities.

All bedrooms comply with the National Minimum Standards for homes registered prior to August 2002 and are as follows:

Room 1: 22.79m² (Ground Floor)
Room 2: 12.13m² (Ground Floor)
Room 3: 12.09m² (Ground Floor)
Room 4: 12.8m² (Ground Floor)
Room 5: 12.25m² (Ground Floor)

Being a bungalow, all rooms are on the ground floor. All bedrooms have an en-suite that includes a WC, a sink, a mirror and a shaving socket. Bedrooms one and two additionally have their own shower. Each bedroom is furnished to a high standard. In addition to a fitted carpet and curtains, each has a wardrobe, chest of drawers, two chairs, desk, lockable space, shelving, bed, bedding and towels. However, the Service User may elect to reject or add to these items should they wish. There may also be a reduction/increase in this provision if a specific risk/need is identified within their care plan or risk assessment. All bedrooms are for single occupancy only.

Service Users may personalise and decorate their own bedroom to their own taste, including buying or bringing in furniture and electrical equipment, providing it meets fire regulations and/or PAT testing.

Each bedroom has windows that can be opened by the Service User if they wish, although all windows have restrictors fitted for the protection of the Service User. All bedroom doors are fitted with a lock, for which the Service User holds the key. These can be locked from the inside and outside. Shift leaders hold a master key in case of an emergency. Each room has a minimum of three electrical sockets and a television aerial socket. The bedrooms do not have a telephone socket fitted. A cordless telephone is available for Service Users to use in private should they wish. All persons, including staff, wishing to enter a bedroom will obtain permission from the Service User first (except in the case of an emergency or concern for the wellbeing of the Service User).
